Splendid Isolation

While I’m following advice on staying at home, I thought it might be fun to plumb my musical ignorance. Ask me a question, any musical question.
Feel free to share this offer and stay well,

Roland Aerophone Hacks

Here’s a couple of ways you can extend the capabilities of the Roland Aerophone AE-10. First, familiarise yourself with the Aerophone’s basic controls and the AE-10’s editor software.

Switch between duet and solo
Layer two (or more) instruments, for example trumpet and trombone in octaves.
Pan one instrument hard left and the other hard right.
Connect AE-10 audio out with a 1/4″ stereo jack split to two mono jacks.
Use an ABY pedal to switch between both or left or right.

ABY

N.B. AE-10 Reverb and Delay are global and stereo so try not to use them, otherwise solo instruments will be ghosted.

Play more complex chord progressions than the Aerophone alone allows
The AE-10 allows you to set up layers to play, for example, major or minor diads, major or minor triads, major or minor 7th chords. But more flexibility is possible …
Connect the AE-10s USB port to an iPad via an Apple Camera Adaptor.
Using the excellent ChordPolyPad app, set up pads to respond to input from the AE-10.
Add intervals and chords to each pad and feed these back to the Aerophone.
To switch this facility on and off during performance, use a USB switch.
